Mercedes runs MiP’s external and internal communications. She handles press strategy and is the first point of contact for the media. She supports our national officers with local and regional communications, runs MiP’s social media, builds our relationships within parliament, and is responsible for national-level communications with members.
Mercedes’ areas of expertise include media strategy, British, European and American politics, social media development, LGBT issues and international trade policy.
Mercedes is based in MiP’s head office and has worked for the union since June 2018. Previously she worked for a think tank in Westminster, the European Parliament, and as a freelance journalist.
Outside of work, Mercedes enjoys the theatre, modern and contemporary art, and spending time with her cockapoos. She has published fiction and policy analysis, and is active in politics.
