Group attending a training event

MiP runs a series of networking events and training courses around the country to enable you to influence and be involved in the union. These include:

  • MiP Members’ Summit
  • Masterclasses and seminars
  • Regional networking events
  • Training for MiP link members and reps

As full members of both the FDA and UNISON, you can also take part in events organised by both unions, and take advantage of all the learning opportunities offered by UNISON Member Learning and FDA Learn.

There is also discounted access to healthcare conferences and Open University Courses. MiP has joined forces with the Open University to offer accredited learning courses at special discounted rates – with qualifications ranging from certificates to a full Masters degree. There is a range of healthcare-related courses and many more, covering subjects such as employment law, finance, management and leadership. Visit the Open University’s MiP page for more details.

Link members training

6 and 7 October 2020: Unison Centre, 130 Euston Road, London NW1 2AY

The course will enable you to: act as the main workplace contact between national officers, head office, and MiP members within a team or organisation; help to keep MiP staff informed on developments within health and care organisations, and local members up to date with MiP’s work; explain and promote the union’s policies and services, and helping to recruit new members; help local members to access advice, information and representation, and offering informal support.

Reps training

11 and 12  November 2020: Unison Centre, 130 Euston Road, London NW1 2AY

If you have done the link member training and would like to develop a more representative role in your workplace then this is the course for you.

This course will help you to: understand the role of the MiP rep and how you can support and represent members in the workplace. It will ncrease your confidence in interviewing members about workplace issues, your knowledge of basic employment rights and the essential elements of representation.

Please email Laura Anthony if you would like to attend any of these training sessions.

For further information or to discuss getting involved in MiP, please contact: Helen Carr, Head of Operations.

If you are interested in becoming a link member or rep but cannot make these dates, please let Laura know so we can let you know when our next round of courses are scheduled. Details of these events and all other MiP events are emailed to members and also available from this website.

Homeworking during the pandemic has been a mixed blessing for many women managers. MiP's International Women's Day webinar examined how we can shape the future of flexible working, so it works for women as well as their employers.
