NHS Graduate Management Trainees

NHS Graduate Management Trainees get full membership for just £10 per year!

Congratulations on embarking on your journey as an NHS Graduate Management Trainee! You’ve chosen a path that will significantly impact the lives of many. MiP is here to support you as you grow into a future leader in the NHS.

So, what is a trade union? Well, it’s a group of working people who have joined together to achieve better pay and working conditions and a safer working environment.

MiP works in partnership with NHS employers and government to make sure the voice of managers is not lost when developing workforce policies. Guided by our members, we also seek to influence national health policies that impact managers, such as on management regulation, the 10 Year Health Plan and pay. As a member, you will have the opportunity to support our policy and campaigning work and help shape policies that work for you, your colleagues and for patients.

MiP is a joint venture by UNISON and the FDA (the union for senior civil servants). This means that MiP members are also members of both UNISON and the FDA at no additional cost, enjoying the backing of all three organisations with just one membership.

Your MiP membership grants you access to the various discount and member benefit schemes of both our partner unions. Whether it’s discounts on your shopping or free initial financial planning advice, MiP has something to offer that will make your busy life that little bit easier.

MiP also offers a full range of learning services for managers who want to develop their careers or take a more active role in the union. As well as MiP’s own training courses, you can choose from the many learning opportunities available from UNISON Member Learning and FDA Learn.

MiP will be there to help you with workplace problems throughout your time on the scheme. We understand that as new entrants to the NHS workforce it can feel difficult to speak up when there is a problem, but MiP’s workplace reps and National Officers will be here to support you when you need it.

MiP is expanding its network of workplace representatives, many of whom have previously participated in the programme and are now in leadership roles. You will have the support of colleagues who were once in your position and understand the unique pressures of being a member of the scheme.

can you help with an existing workplace issue?

MiP can only offer one-to-one support on issues that occur after your first four weeks of membership. Members can still enjoy MiP’s wide range of other benefits and will be protected should another issue occur in the future. Joining when work is going well means your union will always be there if you ever need it.

i’m already a member of unison, will i have to leave to join mip?

MiP operates as a national branch of UNISON, meaning you will retain all UNISON membership rights and benefits such as voting in pay ballots and accessing UNISON discount schemes. MiP was established to focus on the issues that affect managers the most and joining means you are now in the most appropriate branch for your role.

If you are an existing UNISON member and would like to transfer into our branch, please contact info@miphealth.org.uk

For more information on how MiP and UNISON work together please see here.

do you represent health managers working for the civil service?

If you are a civil service manager then you will be best represented by our partner union the FDA.

More details can be found on the FDA’s website here.
