NHS Pay (England)
This page covers the latest on NHS pay negotiations in England, what MiP is doing to win a fair deal for managers, and how you can get involved.
Why this campaign matters
Year after year, health and care staff in England are expected to put up with below-inflation pay awards. MiP is pushing for better headline pay and urgent reforms to a pay structure that is stifling career progression and frustrating staff at every level.
After 18 months of promises, formal negotiations on the NHS pay structure are finally underway. This is a rare opportunity to fix problems that have built up over decades – and the outcome will shape managers’ pay and careers for years to come.
This page is updated regularly with the latest articles and information on NHS pay. Check back to see how the campaign is progressing, and how you can get involved.

Campaign goals
Better headline pay
NHS staff received a 3.3% pay award for 2026/27. We say 3.3% is not enough. It has already been overtaken by increases to the cost of living and does nothing to address longstanding issues with the NHS pay structure.
An improved pay structure
Win reforms to the NHS pay scale so that staff are properly rewarded as they progress through their careers, ending pay bottlenecks and making sure staff are graded fairly for the work they actually do.
Managers’ voices in the room
The NHS needs managers so it can operate smoothly and safely. Managers must have a voice in the negotiations, so that the NHS can recruit and retain the managers needed to improve services for patients and for staff.

Tell employers and government how the flaws in the pay structure have affected you and why reforms are so urgently needed with our partner union UNISON’s survey.
