Underwood calls for permanent shift to homeworking

By MiP

National Committee Member Geoff Underwood

MiP National Committee member Geoff Underwood has called for the NHS to learn the lessons of the Covid-19 crisis and encourage many more staff to work from home once the emergency is over.

Writing in the Health Service Journal last month, Underwood, who represents MiP members in South West England, said “establishing a ‘new normal’ will take a lot of work” but the benefits to the NHS “could be huge”.

“If we can manage and deliver services just as effectively with many of our people regularly working from home – where they can see more of their children and go out for a run instead of sitting in traffic jams – why wouldn’t we do that?” he added.
